Happy International Women’s Day!
Before you begin, I wrote this a week ago on #IWD2021 and I’ll like to leave the tenses as they were. Please read with your last week’s mind, thank you 😊
.……………
Today, I read a lot of posts; “Top 10 Women in XYZ”, “Top 55 Women”, “100 Leading Ladies” and all of that good stuff in celebration of the IWD2021 🎉🎉🎉
Following that good feeling was a yeye thought that crept in through the back door of my mind. “Nihin, what number are you?” I went, Ha! Iru pala pala wo niyen? Number Kini Bawo, how many out of how many?
This thought was closely followed by the feeling of “Why are you not like Ngozi or Ibukun, but you can do what they’re doing”
Haba! Not today, a Holy Women’s day 🥺
I went into my inner chest to see where that thought was coming from and then I hit it.
I was about comparing my life with someone else’s, Tufiakwa! My Life is about being my own best and not a low budget or updated version of another beautiful woman (Photocopy Ko easy, or is it?)
Will I be nationally or globally recognized for it? No, or maybe Yes.. Don’t beat me up yet, that’s why I put two options.
A quick one, Google search the names of the top 3 people who have greatly influenced your life. Did all 3 names come up? Are they all big names? In my case, No. That tells me something, lifelong impact doesn’t always translate to popularity or being mentioned on the big stages.
You may ask, how will people be imparted by what I do if “a lot of people” don’t know me. I don’t have all the answers too, but I know that you should leverage the internet to put yourself out there. Please know this still doesn’t translate to popular-popularity.
Today, let’s talk about you who puts in all the work, own your stuff and you’re not recognized (yet) on the big stages.
This isn’t for those expecting to blow overnight sha. The Process is more important than the destination, you get warraimin.
I have goodnews for you. Are you diligently doing what God has placed in your hands? Are you following God’s plan and obeying His leadings? Are you a blessing to lives? Millions, Hundreds of thousands, A few hundreds, Tens or maybe just one?
Whether you’re the Babe with the 5 talents or One, the most important thing is you are multiplying it and bringing in results. In my opinion, I think that’s what really counts.
This isn’t about being average or mediocre, Olorun maje. I mean you work your self off and you feel you’re not like that badass girl who’s got 5 talents and you think of hiding your own light everywhere looks bright.
No sis! Put your best foot forward, hone your skills, shine your own light, create magic, blow our minds, leave nothing to chance, don’t back down, get your A-game on, in someone’s words “Ginger your swagger”, keep building, shatter the glass ceilings, push the boundaries, BE YOUR BEST and not only the Best. Do it for purpose, impact and not for the applause, which may or may not follow all the time. The most important thing is you’re doing what you’re here for and I think that is fulfillment right there. Your own tribe and clan will definitely find you. If it’s the entire world, Go girl! If it’s in a small community, it doesn’t minimize your impact, ride on Siser!
Please don’t bury “your talent” because you think you don’t have enough. The Master ain’t gonna be pleased. Own your stuff!
Love always,
Nihin
PS: These meanings are not exact
Iru pala pala wo niyen - What’s the colour of this nonsense
Number Kini bawo- If you want to drag me, drag me gently.
Tufiakwa - God no fit shame us, never!
Olorun maje - The devil is a liar!”
Nihinlola, thank you for such timely words. Flesh and blood have not... You know warramin? This is beyond you and definitely food for all and sundry. The highlight for me is understanding and respecting the Process as it is more important than the destination 🔥
Wow. This is such a beautiful write up. I was so curious to read this because of Toni writing a sequel to it, I just had to request for it. On reading, I have seen for myself the value and knowledge scripted in this article. Please keep up the good work Nihinlolamiwa, this is just the beginning of the better things that lie ahead
